I often hear friends ask, what is the difference between motorcycle oil seal chains and ordinary chains?
The main difference between ordinary motorcycle chains and oil-sealed chains is whether there is a sealing ring between the inner and outer chain pieces. First look at ordinary motorcycle chains.
The inner and outer chains of ordinary chains, a chain is made up of more than 100 joints of inner and outer chains alternately connected to each other, there is no rubber seal between the two, and the inner and outer chains are closely next to each other.
For ordinary chains, due to exposure to the air, dust and muddy water during riding will penetrate between the sleeve and the rollers of the chain. After these foreign objects enter, they will wear the gap between the sleeve and the rollers like fine sandpaper. On the contact surface, the gap between the sleeve and the roller will increase over time, and even in an ideal dust-free environment, wear between the sleeve and the roller is inevitable.
Although the wear and tear between individual chain links is imperceptible to the naked eye, a motorcycle chain is often composed of hundreds of chain links. If they are superimposed, it will be obvious. The most intuitive feeling is that the chain is stretched, basically Ordinary chains have to be tightened once at about 1000KM, otherwise too long chains will seriously affect driving safety.
Look at the oil seal chain again.
There is a sealing rubber ring between the inner and outer chain plates, which is injected with grease, which can prevent external dust from invading the gap between the rollers and pins, and prevent internal grease from being thrown out , can provide continuous lubrication.
Therefore, the extended mileage of the oil seal chain is greatly delayed. A reliable oil seal chain can basically do not need to tighten the chain within 3000KM, and the overall service life is longer than that of ordinary chains, generally not less than 30,000 to 50,000 kilometer.
However, although the oil seal chain is good, it is not without disadvantages. The first is the price. The oil seal chain of the same brand is often 4 to 5 times more expensive than the ordinary chain, or even more. For example, the price of the well-known DID oil seal chain can reach more than 1,000 yuan, while the ordinary domestic chain is basically less than 100 yuan, and the better brand is only a hundred yuan.
Then the running resistance of the oil seal chain is relatively large. In layman’s terms, it is relatively “dead”. It is generally not suitable for use on small-displacement models. Only those motorcycles with medium and large displacement will use this kind of oil seal chain.
Finally, the oil seal chain is not a maintenance-free chain. Pay attention to this point. It also needs cleaning and maintenance. Do not use various oils or solutions with too high or too low pH value to clean the oil seal chain, which may cause the sealing ring to age and lose its sealing effect. Generally, you can use neutral soapy water for cleaning, and adding a toothbrush can solve the problem. Or special mild chain wax can also be used.
As for the cleaning of ordinary chains, you can generally use gasoline, because it has a good cleaning effect and is easy to volatilize. After cleaning, use a clean rag to wipe off the oil stains and dry them, and then use a brush to clean the oil. Just wipe off the oil stains.
The tightness of the normal chain is generally maintained between 1.5CM and 3CM, which is relatively normal. This data refers to the chain swing range between the front and rear sprockets of the motorcycle.
Going below this value will cause premature wear of the chain and sprockets, hub bearings will not work properly, and the engine will be burdened with unnecessary loads. If it is higher than this data, it will not work. At high speed, the chain will swing up and down too much, and even cause detachment, which will affect driving safety.
